This season, the big trends have not been a certain type of trouser or top, its been patterns and colours and this has definitely carried out through into coats. Coats weren’t seen massively on the catwalks of the autumn winter collections only because a very big trend this season is jumpers and wraps. Which designers/fashion houses have been using as their outerwear of their collections. To read more about this Knitwear trend then head on over to my ‘The Knitwear trend that will keep you warm this autumn‘ post to read more.
The trends that were really hitting the runway this season, that were seen within the styles of the coats were: plaid, the colour red, metallics, and Burberry really liked the see-through Cagoule coat.
Plaid was a massive pattern trend that could be seen throughout many collections within the autumn and winter season. This pattern was just not seen on coats but tops, trousers, jumpers, cardigans and many more, this was a popular fabric to use this season.
Plaid to meet you.
Red was a definite statement colour for this season. Givenchy had their entire Autumn/Winter 2017 Ready-To-Wear collection in this one colour. If you wear this colour it would have to be your statement piece within your outfit. This shade of red is to bold to be hidden.
Many designers/fashion houses took inspiration from the science fiction style of clothing for their collections. Metallics was a strong colour seen over many designers. Gucci even had an entire campaign photographed on the old sets of ‘Star Trek – the original series’.
The coats that were coming down the Catwalk this season had a definite theme to most of them. Majority of the coats were long, cutting below the knee with a trench coat cut to the style, This style was fitted and came majority of the time with a belt to cinch you in at the waist.
