Hello readers,

Gucci CEO Marco Bizzari has announced that from spring/summer 2018 all collections that are created from the brand will no longer have fur within its collection. Speaking at Kering Talk 2017 at London College of Fashion, Marco Bizzari announced their decision to go fur free as “technology is now available that means you don’t need to use fur. The alternatives are luxurious. There is just no need”. Fur has been a controversial topic for many years within the fashion industry. PETA throwing red paint over people wearing fur clothing both on the Catwalk and over members of the public on the streets while protesting have been much-publicised.

A few highly known fashion houses/designers have already made their declaration of going fur free. Gucci will be joining the likes of Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood and Tommy Hilfiger. The brand is currently selling various furs including a mink coat being sold for £25,920.

I am glad that Gucci have taken this step and going fur free. I hope that this encourages other designers/fashion houses to also go fur free. Marco Bizzari is right in that technology has moved on and faux furs are so realistic that you really couldn’t tell the difference if you were given the task.

What do you think about Gucci going fur free? Do you think fur should be banned? Or do you think fur is fine? I would love to know what you think!
